Editor,
What ever happened to John Son? (Confessed killer of Dr. Winston Martin, The Police News, February 2008) I vaguely remember him.
I worked for a doctor in the Department of Surgery for 30 years and a lot of the students rotated on our service. I remember his name.
I worked for Dr. Jay Fish, a renal (kidney) transplant doctor and I keep in contact with a lot of the nurse's around here who also knew Dr. Winston Martin and knew his wife very well.
It was a real good story and I want you to know it's been mailed all the way into Arkansas and Fargo, North Dakota because there's a lot of people around who remember him.
I do know that his (Winston Martin) mother, when she was questioned, made it well known that she believed that he was living in Mexico under an assumed name. She really believed that and that was wide spread.
There was poor police work and believe me we had a poor police department at that time.
Most of the people he was connected with in the Titus Harris Clinic are now dead, but as I say, some of the nurse's remember him and I think my nephew remembers the case very well.
I love your paper. I read it from beginning to end. I had the issue before this one and when my friend called me to tell me about this story, my friend and I rushed out to the Dutch Kettle on 37th and Seawall Street to eat so we could pick up The Police News. That's where we get ours.
It has really provoked a lot of interest. I'm sure you know that.

During our investigation for this story we did locate the current address of John Son. A month after our story appeared we were contacted by Galveston Police and turned that, and other information, over to their investigator.
