In September of last year, Kaycee Lynn Grantham was taken from her home in Plano, Texas by a crook by the name of Shawn Austin. Several days later police found the pair in Beaumont. Austin was arrested on multiple warrants and Kaycee was returned home to her mother. The Police News provided extensive coverage of the case both online and in our Southeast Texas and Gulf Coast editions.
On April 16th of this year we received the following email from Kaycee's mother in Plano.
Mr.Porter,
I am writing this to thank you for running the story on my daughter Kaycee Lynn Grantham. I am not sure if you have received any information following up on the story and I apologize for taking so long to express my sincere appreciation.
My daughter was found and Shawn Austin was arrested in November. A young woman from Beaumont called me one afternoon and said she had my daughter. She had become friends with her and wanted to remain anonymous because of Shawn's ties with local Arian Brotherhood and KKK ?. She put Kaycee on a bus to come home, after hours of me trying to get her a ticket.
I called the Plano Police and somehow the U.S Marshals got involved and removed her from the bus just after pulling off from the Beaumont station.
Kaycee and I and the rest of my family have been laying low and recovering from a roller coaster of events. She is doing great, and bounced back to herself and is living like any normal 15 yr old.
Me, on the other hand....its taking a little longer!! I am ever so careful about everything and anything and anybody. I have pulled my children out of school and doing homeschooling . Never the less I am very happy that this story does end with a happy ending.
Thanks to you and reporter Debbie Schamber our story got out there and got peoples attention.
Thanks again,
Lori Grantham
