GALVESTON - "Sweet Home Alabama, I'll be comin' home to you," played inside the First Baptist Church in Galveston today, as hundreds of friends, family and law enforcement officer's from throughout Texas gathered to say "farewell" to Jeffery Howard "Bama" Wyers, one of Galveston County's best loved people.
48-year old Wyers and his new wife Crystal Robinson Wyers were in a motorcycle crash in Texas City last Saturday that left Wyers dead and his wife critically injured. She remained in the hospital today while her new husband made his final trip home to Alabama.
SGT. Jeffery Howard "Bama" Wyers, born September 29, 1960, was called by the Lord for his final watch on June 14, 2008.
He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and "Popsey". He was preceded in death by his parents Billy and Ann Wyers. He is survived by his wife, Crystal Wyers; daughters, Brandy Brown and husband Terry, Megan Wyers, Ashley Burge and husband Stephen, Ashley Grounds, and Miranda Bunch; brothers and their wives, Jody and Sherri Wyers, Jamie and Tamara Wyers, and Tom and Kathy Wyers; grandchildren Justyce, Ashley, and Clayton Brown; a bunch of beloved nieces and nephews; mother and father-in-law Leslie and Bob Ober; along with countless number of Brothers in Blue.
He is walking with his family, friends, and every man and woman wearing a badge as their guardian angel. By his statue alone, Jeff was looked up to and he served his entire life as a guardian helping others in need. His purpose was evident when the Lord chose Jeff to serve as a Galveston Police Officer.
"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of GOD"-Matthew 5:9

Words simply can't express the pain and sense of loss that is felt by all at hearing of this tragic loss. Jeff was one of the most awesome guys I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. In working at the bank together, we had many conversations and shared many laughs. I will deeply miss my friend, "big bald-head Jeff", as I affectionately called him, but I thank the Lord that I was fortunate enough to have known him. I will keep his family, and new wife in my prayers.
My heart goes out to Jeff's family. You are in my prayers. Jeff always had and always will have a special place in my heart. He touched many lives and he will not be forgotten. May he ride with the wind now. - Michelle Bashor

When Jeff stopped by the Office and brought Crystal in to meet everyone... we were all so thrilled for the both of you. You made him so happy and we saw him smile so big when he picked your hand up and showed us your engagement ring...that was wonderful. The fact he married you and had the feeling of complete happiness on Friday Night and to be taken from everyone on Saturday is the most difficult thing of all. Jeff would want to be there to take care of you in that big teddy bear way. I know your family will help you through this. Jeff was loved by all who knew him. Crystal our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our Deepest Sympathy, Dr. Stanley Higgs, Mrs. Barbara Higgs, Kaylee Burkhardt, Valerie McVay, Anita Lewis, Amber Perry and all our families

I am grateful to have known Jeff and hope the best for his family in the future. I also pray that his new wife makes a full recovery and knows how much she meant to him. Renee Hernandez
We've known and loved Jeff for many years. We will genuinely miss his brash honesty, his command presence on and off duty and his open love for his girls. The loss felt is immeasurable. Jeff is an irreplaceable individual however will forever live on in his daughters and beautiful granddaughter. Crystal, this is Tracy (Bradyn's mom). I speak for our entire family. I cannot begin to express the heartfelt sympathy I am feeling. There is little happening in my life that doesn't take me to thoughts of you and Ashley, as well as your entire family, including Jeff's. I saw ya'll loading your car just friday morning. I want you to know that we are here for you, in any capacity which we can be. In the meantime ALL of our prayers are with you and those who your lives have touched. Get well soon, be blessed and know we care! Much love, Tracy Ann, Ryan, and Family

Words cannot express the sorrow in my heart. Jeff was a true "Gentle Giant". I have never met a more compassionate, straigt forward, fun loving and gentle person in my life. He had a smile that could light up the world. We will all miss him dearly To Crystal: I have never met you but my heart goes out to you on your tremendous loss. May God give you the strength to hold on to all of your special and wonderful memories of Jeff in your time of healing and sorrow. Vicki Charles @ Moody National Bank
To Brandy, Justice, Terry, and Family - Your loss is one that is shared by the community as a whole. Thousands upon thousands have been affected, in one way or another, by this. Every tear of sorrow you shed, we all share. But rest assured, Jeff was one in a billion, and will never be forgotten! I've had the pleasure of knowing him for the past 3 years. He was a little intimidating at first, because of his massive stature. But, once you got past that, he was the kindest, most loving, "Gentle-Giant" everyone proclaimed him to be. I remember playing poker with Jeff and Crystal. I could never bluff him, cause he would call me out and make me laugh, then I'd loose. I had the pleasure of working with both him a Crystal at this year's Fair and Rodeo. The two of them complemented each other so well. Jeff was definately one hell of a supervisor! I absolutely loved working for him, and looked forward to working with him in the future. The world would be a far better place if everyone were like Sgt. Jeff Wyers. He will be missed. On behalf of the Hitchcock Police Department - Our Deepest Condolences to everyone affected by this tragedy. As I said earlier, Jeff was one in a billion and will be sorely missed for years to come. - Tim Krietemeyer

June 22nd, 2008 10 PM To the family of Jeff Wyers: It was a week ago yesterday that myself, the Strouds, the Toppins and the Daggs were on the road to Cal Tex in Colorado Springs. We found out about Jeff's passing and Crystal's injuries when we stopped for the night in Wichita Falls. We all were greatly saddened at the loss of our brother officer, friend, cohort to us and father, husband and son-in-law to Jeff's family. Jeff was the topic of many of our conversations throughout the week. As I write this I am listening to the memorial service and I can tell he was greatly loved by his daughters and by many others as well. I had the pleasure of knowing Jeff while on the GPD. I know he will be greatly missed! Psalm 121: I lift my eyes unto the hills, where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth! Rest in Peace Jeff. Your brother officer Nick P. Einecke, Galveston Police Department (Retired), Cathy Einecke
June 24, 2008 - Crystal, I am with you and will be by your side through all of this healing process. I will miss Jeff, nobody picked on me quite the same as him. I will never wear a toe-ring again without thinking of him. It is unfair that you and the families had to suffer like this but God will provide all of you with the strength to leave the pain behind and replace it with beautiful memories. We all hurt for you and there isn't a single day that you are not in our thoughts. I am a phone call away and I will run at a minutes notice because I love you and you are my best friend. I was there during all the planning of the wedding, setting up the wedding, the wedding and the funeral. It was a dream that became a nightmare but we will get through this. I love you, Kay
